About The Author

Anne Lewis Benedict has been a summer resident of Mantoloking since 1936. To say that she has been involved in the activities of the town is an understatement.

She grew up sailing on the waters of Barnegat Bay, winning three BBYRA championships, the first in Moths at the age of twelve, as well as numerous other Mantoloking Yacht Club sailing championships. She was an avid tennis player on the M.Y.C. courts, winning the Mal Jennings Trophy for sportsmanship in 1980. She was secretary of the yacht club in the mid-1950s and a member of the Board of Governors for nine years after that. She won the Beaton Trophy, emblematic of service to the yacht club, in 1974 with her husband, John Benedict, a former commodore, and then a second time in her own right in 1979.

She was a member of the Board of Trustees of The Church of St. Simon-by-the-Sea for seventeen years, five of which she was the president.

She is historian for the Borough of Mantoloking as well as the yacht club and St. Simon’s.

Anne Lewis Benedict was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania in 1933. She graduated from Shipley School and Colby Junior College. She married John P. Benedict in 1956 and is the mother of three grown children and eight grandchildren. John Benedict died in 1995.

Anne Benedict is the right person at the right time to put together the pictorial history of Mantoloking.
